- the trip
12 - 15 july 08
hong kong
july was a pretty good month i guess. realised its been a long time since i even wrote anything mildly conversational or interactive.
14 july was martin's birthday. so we decided to go hong kong.
i guess the main reason why we went was because (1) martin has not been to hong kong before, and (2) its his birthday and he can basically do whatever he wants.
so we got some tickets, booked a couple of rooms and off we go...
some observations about hong kong:-
1. super duper, seriously overpopulated (and you thought singapore was bad)
2. everyone is always in a rush, even on sat and sun
3. very efficient subway system. definitely beat singapore's mrt...
4. everyone lives underground
5. all i see on the roads are taxis, mercedes, bmws, audis and mpvs
6. i love the disneyland toilets. best toilets in hong kong ever
7. there is always water dripping down on me
8. small shop = biggest signboard
hong kong is an ok place to visit i guess, but not a place that i want to live.
highlight of the trip; martin is happy, pei chin is happy, and khim is happy.
if khim is happy, then justin is happy too.

- The Fear in Us
fear motivation.
this is the lowest form.
fear motivation involves doing something because we don't like the consequences of not doing it. it is often used by parents to motivate their children, and teachers their pupils.
employers have attempted to use it with questionable results.
"firings will continue until morale improves!"
fear motivation works for a little while, but will usually produce such side products as resentment and bitterness and is, at best, effective only over a short term.
