- The Reservist Week
when you were a kid and your english teacher wants you to write a composition about what you wanna be when you grow up, most boys will be like "policeman~!, soldier~!, fireman~!". somehow, when you're 6 or 7, the occupations that you know of will typically revolve around these 3 jobs; plus doctors, pilots and sailors.
when you get older, say...secondary school or poly?
the sad truth that you're going to spend your 21st birthday serving NS starts to dawn on you...
during NS, you start to have thoughts like "what the fuck am i doing here?" or "i'm wasting 2 years of my life...". you look at the kids playing in neighbourhoods and shopping centres with their toy guns, and tell them in your mind that when they finally grow up and be your age, they will never wanna carry a gun or rifle ever again.
its at this point in time, when policeman, soldier and fireman are the last 3 jobs that you want to do.
however, when you start work, things really start looking up for you.
reservist and soldier doesn't seem so bad anymore. in fact, it sounds more like a week on leave or a free rest week.
it's that time when you realise your relationship with mindef has come full circle, and you're back to enjoying being a soldier again. but only if its just for a week...
